Jessica Worsley is a remarkable young girl, at just 11 years old she has raised an incredible sum of money for Cornish charity Cornwall Hospice Care. Hundred’s attended ‘Jessica’s Fun day’ at the Polgooth Inn, St Austell on Saturday 18th June.

A teddy tombola, raffle, doughnut challenge, face painting and much more, the Polgooth Inn was full of laughter and smiles as locals gathered to enjoy Jessica’s ‘Fun Day’ on Saturday. Preparations began four months ago and local businesses were very active in supporting Jessica as much as they could, with great raffle prizes, free sweets and free printing. Jessica explained to us why she wanted to hold a fun day;

“My step brother’s Mum was cared for at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice and then St Julia’s Hospice before sadly passing away. I wanted to raise money to help people feel better.”

Jessica has been overwhelmed by the money raised; “I was hoping to raise £100 because at 11 years old I thought that was a lot of money, I can’t believe that I have raised £3,080.14”

Jessica was astounded by the turnout on Saturday; “I loved seeing how many people came and how much money they spent and I was so happy to seeing everybody enjoying themselves”.

Cornwall Hospice Care Community Fundraiser Judy Lawton attended the event and was full of praise for Jessica;

“It’s remarkable that Jessica at the age of 11 has been able to raise such a fantastic amount of money. She’s worked really hard and deserves a very big thank you for making a difference to our patients and their families. She’s an inspiration to us all”.

We invited Jessica to Mount Edgcumbe Hospice to meet members of our nursing team who were very excited to see her. Jessica surprised them with the cheque for £3,080.14, which they gratefully received. We asked Jessica for a piece of advice to anyone thinking about fundraising; “Let someone else help you and make sure you have lots of fun!”
