A Great Grandmother from Crantock has hit the jackpot, winning the rollover in the Cornwall Hospice Care lottery. Margery Wood scooped the £9,400 prize on Thursday 24th March and says she’ll be spoiling her family with the winnings.

Margery, who’s been playing the Cornwall Hospice Care lottery since October 2014, says she was so excited when she heard she’d won that she ran to a neighbour in her nightie;

“I couldn’t believe it. I’m not usually this lucky, so I ran round to my neighbour because I just had to tell someone, and she wasn’t in. I then carried on round to Taite, one of my Grand Daughters, still in my night clothes! This money is going to make such a difference and I hope to be able to help my whole family, perhaps by taking them on a holiday once the summer is over.”

Margery who’s lived in Crantock for thirty years, has four Grandchildren and a Great Grandson all of whom live nearby. She started supporting the Cornwall Hospice Care lottery when she gave up on the National Lottery;

“I wanted to support a local charity that would benefit the county but I didn’t sign up to win, I just wanted to help. This is an added bonus and I’m so excited. It really is a life changing moment for me.”

Sarah Vincent is the Manager of the Cornwall Hospice Care Lottery;

“It was a joy to ring Margery with the good news last week. She just kept saying pardon until the idea of the win set in. We really appreciate the support of the many thousands of people like Margery who take part in our lottery each week. Their support helps fund the care we provide to patients with life limiting illnesses, and their families. Each week we have a £1,000 winner, but there’s also a chance to win in the rollover, which starts at £200 and then goes up in £200 increments for each week that no-one wins. The total can reach a final limit of £10,000. We’re all delighted for Margery and her family and have loved being part of the excitement.”

The last big winner of the Cornwall Hospice Care lottery rollover was Grandmother of nine Kate Triniman of Redruth who won £10,000 back in 2014.

In April 2015 Falmouth Mum of two, Lowenna Collins, celebrated Easter with a rollover win of £5,400.
