Cornwall Hospice Care hopes to persuade people to ‘Make a Splash for Cash’ this summer at two Open Water swimming events. Known as Swim Trelissick, the challenges are being supported by Cornwall Sports Partnership, Cornwall Aquatic Action Group and the National Trust.

Swim Trelissick offers a half or a one mile course in the open, and yet sheltered, waters of the River Fal. The first event is on Sunday 19th July with registration opening at 5.45pm. The swims are run from the beach at the bottom of the stunning park that stretches down to the sea in front of the main house. The superb natural location is suitable for everyone, from first timers to the more experienced swimmer, and its particularly popular with families wanting to take on a shared challenge in support of a truly Cornish charity.

Lindsay Opie is the Major Events Fundraiser for Cornwall Hospice Care;

“We held our first Swim Trelissick last year and it was a terrific success, everyone had a lovely time and even the sun put in an appearance. These events offer everyone the chance to swim in the beautiful, sheltered surroundings at Trelissick, while having fun in safety with friends and family and raising money for Cornwall Hospice Care at the same time.”

“All levels and abilities of swimmer are welcome from the age of 8 onwards. Registration is £15 for adults and £8 for children under 16, which includes entry to one of a choice of swims, a swimming cap and post event memento.”

“We’d love to welcome lots of spectators to the event as well, it’s very much a family based affair and the more cheering there is the better. The idea is for everyone to have fun while supporting our very Cornish charity. And why? Well our hospices at St Julia’s in Hayle and Mount Edgcumbe in St Austell provide specialist and compassionate care to those who need it, as well as offering comfort to their families and friends. However, our government grant is limited, in fact it pays for just 41 days of care at our two hospices, which means we have to find the money to pay for the other 324 days of the year!”
