Truro embraces Cornwall Hospice Care supporters as they run and they remember There was a full house for the Light up a Life event as 400 people gathered to remember loved ones at the special service. In the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Truro, John Tamblyn and his wife, Threemilestone Primary School sang during the event. Senior Staff Nurse Sally Davies and volunteer Sue Dennett from the Newquay Fundraising Group shared readings and Lesley Ross, Chair of the charity’s Trustees gave an address based on the wide ranging work of Cornwall Hospice Care. The event was masterminded by Clare Bray, Community Fundraiser for Cornwall Hospice Care; “This service was, as always, a lovely event with time for quiet reflection. The school choir were superb and I must give a special mention to the Cathedral staff and volunteers who were extremely helpful and welcoming. This is one of five Light up a Life events where we celebrate our loved ones and share carols, readings and prayers.” There are Light up a Life events at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice and St Julia’s Hospice this Sunday (4th December) at 4.30pm, one at St Mary’s Church in Launceston on Wednesday 7th December at 4pm and one at Chapel Street Methodist Church in Penzance on Thursday 8th December at 6pm. The Santa Fun Run meanwhile, attracted 70 participants this year who have already raised £1,533 with more to come. As Clare Bray explains, it was all part of the activities to mark late night shopping in the city; “What a night! Our mascot, Ruan the Reindeer was part of the Reindeer Parade while our runners dashed their way through the crowds of shoppers who were taking advantage of the late opening of the city’s stores. Everyone had great fun and there were a lot of smiling faces at the end when medals and mince pies were handed out. I’d like to thank Debbie McCrory from BBC Radio Cornwall who started the event, all our volunteer marshals, Lifestyle Medical and Totally Truro for their help and support.” Still to come - the Wadebridge Cycle and Padstow Santa Fun Run on Saturday 3rd December, Newquay Fun Run and Surf on Sunday 4th December, Falmouth Santa versus Elves Fun Run on Saturday 10th December and Helston Santa Fun Run on Saturday 17th December.
