Cornwall Hospice Care has been successful in getting through to the public voting round in the Aviva Community Fund. This is a national fund open to voting throughout the UK.

The charity’s St Julia’s Hospice need 3 new patient beds to replace old beds that have been used by thousands of Cornish people over the years. The new beds will increase patient comfort and improve infection control measures.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) have reviewed the guidelines for bed rails in a clinical environment. Bed rails are used extensively in our care environments to prevent patients falling out of bed and injuring themselves.

Replacing the beds would give us the opportunity to meet the new measures, and allow us to have a range of beds, from specialist to general which will meet patients’ needs better.

These beds will cost the charity £3,250 each. They are easy to clean which will help to meet infection control standards and the bed rails on both these model meet the new standards of the MHRA.

Mark Buffey-Corrigan, Trusts & Grants Officer for the charity said;

“I am delighted that the Aviva Community Fund have chosen to accept our application to be put forward to the national public vote. As a Cornish charity, it will be difficult for us to gain more votes than some of the national charities, but I am sure that the people of Cornwall will cast their vote and help us to beat charities up country.”

“Each year, we help over 1,000 people in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. For some patients, it is to manage their pain and control the symptoms of their illness, for others, it is to spend their last days in comfort, with their family, maintaining their dignity.”

Voting only takes a couple of minutes of your time. Once you register, you will have 10 votes to cast and please use as many of these 10 votes for Cornwall Hospice Care. To vote for Cornwall Hospice Care, go to the Aviva Community Fund website
