Our Marketing and Promotions Officer, Megan continued our series of visits to our shops in our #DayInTheLifeOf series – this time she found herself at Bodmin Lifestyle shop, which has quite a history! Megan takes up the story;
“I had been looking forward to my day at the Bodmin Lifestyle shop ever since I visited on our Great Cornish Cake Bake Day. On that day I left the shop with 3 pieces of cake and on my day in the life I left with 3 pieces of clothing!
The shop is at the site of The Old Palace Cinema and it gives the shop a fantastic quirky feel.
Tracey welcomed me and gave me a quick tour of the shop and talked me through the various displays. We were then on to our first task of the day ‘culling’ – not as harsh as it sounds! Thanks to the generous people of Cornwall we are able to refresh our stock, ensuring our weekly shoppers will always find something new and exciting on their visits.
The process for this is simple, when the clothes are sorted and priced for going on the rails they are assigned a week number. So, with shop volunteer Jackie, I went through the rails removing anything from week 24 or under. The items were then bagged up for the Cornwall Hospice Care delivery van to move them on to one of our other shops.
I’ve refined my till skills so after the cull I was happily left to serve customers, only requiring assistance when a customer asked for a lottery ticket! (You can buy £1 tickets in all our shops or sign up weekly online.)
The beautifully laid out Vintage Cart above caught my eye and is my #FoundinCHC from this visit!
In the afternoon we were joined by Pip, the Assistant Manager who had spent the morning at our Bodmin Clearance Shop just up the road. I first met Pip at our Penryn Homestyle Shop 13 months ago in my first week with Cornwall Hospice Care and it was lovely to see her again.
With the day drawing to an end I said goodbye to Pip (left below) and Tracey (right) and I snapped this photo as Pip told me ‘we are always smiling’ and in such a gorgeous shop I’m not surprised.”
