Why can't I donate in my local shop?

We changed from being able to donate in store to dedicated donation sites in response to the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure a safe process for all involved.

We found benefits operating this way;

  • a safe and improved donor experience,
  • increased Gift Aid sign-up’s
  • reduced van mileage
  • better movement of saleable stock rather than items destined for recycling

This means more of the money made by shopping with us goes to the care at our two hospices, Mount Edgcumbe and St Julia’s, so we will continue to work this way.

Do I have to book an appointment to donate?

You do not need to book an appointment to donate at any of our sites.

Bodmin Donation Centre closes at 1.30pm

St Austell Donation Centre closes at 3.30pm

Bude Donation Centre closes at 1.30pm

Our other sites operate on a first come basis and will close for the day once they are full. This differs day to day as some people bring a full load and some drop in a box or two. We highly recommend getting to these sites when they open for the day.

Truro Donation Point, Penryn Donation Point and Hayle Donation Point

What do I do if I don't drive?

We appreciate that some people do not drive and will be unable to reach our donation centres and points. We ask that you consider asking friends and or family – perhaps saving up donations with others for one drop off.

Do you collect donations?

Yes – we collect furniture items.

You can request a free furniture collection by emailing furniturecollections@cornwallhospice.co.uk. This service is for  items that you can’t bring in yourself – sofas, wardrobes, dining room furniture etc.  In your email please include your contact details and as much detail as possible about your items including photos.  Please ensure items are in a saleable condition, and if upholstered have the correct fire safety labels attached

Do you accept CDs, DVDs or console games?

Yes.

Please check they are in working condition so that we are able to sell and avoid disposal costs.

We no longer accept VHS.

Can you accept books that aren't in good condition?

If they are still recognisable as books we can accept them. We can send them on to recycle and ask that customers could add a note that they are to be recycled when bringing in –  this will save us time and money.

Please email communications@cornwallhospice.co.uk if you don’t find the answer you are looking for.
