Reflections is a moving and peaceful way in which to remember loved ones. Your personal, hand written message of remembrance, together with a bright pink gerbera flower will be placed on our wicker raft, in the shape of an open lotus flower. With some gentle background music and the sounds of the sea, we stand together as the raft is rowed slowly away.

We hold two Reflections afternoons during June and anyone is invited to attend, there does not need to be a personal connection with our hospices.

The first will be at Polkerris beach near Par on Sunday the 9th June where, from 4pm you are invited to add your message to the raft. Alternatively you can join us at Trebah Garden near Falmouth on Sunday 16th June from 4pm when there will be free entrance into the garden.

If you would like a message to be included on one of the rafts but are unable to attend either of the afternoons, please let me know which raft you would like your message to be on, and I will ensure that it is included. At both events the raft will float at approximately 5pm, weather and sea conditions permitting.

Friends and family are also welcome to join us on the day, there will be additional tags available if anyone would like to add a message on the day.

Why support Cornwall Hospice Care?

Every year it costs over £5 million to provide the specialist care we offer to our in and out patients. Only 20% of this is funded through a contribution from Cornwall’s NHS Commissioners, in simple terms, the NHS contribution pays for 71 days of care each year. In a calendar year that’s only enough to get us to the 12th March. We rely on the generosity of people like you in Cornwall who leave us legacies, support fundraising events, play our lottery and visit our 32 shops.

Frequently Asked Questions

I can't make the date, is there another event taking place?

We are holding another Reflections event on Sunday 16th June 2019 at Trebah Gardens, Mawnan Smith.

What time will the raft float?

The raft will float at approximately 5pm, guests are welcome to arrive from 4pm onwards.

Am I able to bring my dog?

Dogs are not permitted on the beach at Polkerris during the summer months, however they are allowed in the Rashleigh pub and in the outdoor seating area of Sam’s on the Beach, where you wouls be able to see the raft. Polkerris Watersports and the Hungry Sailor Café also allow them on the grassed area just above the beach, this would also offer good views of the raft going into the water and being rowed away.

Is there disabled parking and access?

Parking at Polkerris is in a pay and display car park which is 200m from the beach. There is a drop off area down at the beach but no parking. Pay and display applies from 8am – 6pm and is charged at £1.60 for two hours, £2.40 for three hours or £4 for all day.

Do we need tickets?

Tickets are not needed for either event. The beach at Polkerris is open to the public all day, the raft will be ready for you to add your message at 4pm.

Entrance to Trebah is free for those taking part from 4pm, simply let the staff on the desk know that you are here for Reflections.

You are welcome to bring friends and family with you on the day and there will be spare tags available for additional messages.

How much does it cost to take part?

There is no set fee to take part in Reflections. We simply ask for a donation towards the work of Cornwall Hospice Care enabling us to care for adults in Cornwall living with a terminal illness. A couple of examples of costs are below.

£28.00 – Could help to fund a session with a bereavement councillor

£20.00 – Could help to fund an hour of nursing care

£15.00 – Could help to fund a session with a complementary therapist out in the community

I am unable to attend either day, can my message still go on the raft?

Yes of course, simply complete the steps by clicking on the pink button, there is a section that asks if you are able to attend or not. Please select which raft you would like your message to be on and I will make sure that it is included.
