* RUN FALMOUTH HALF MARATHON & KIDS RUN UPDATE *

Run Falmouth Half Marathon and Kids Run 2018 CANCELLED:

Over the last 24hrs, we have been monitoring the weather forecast closely in preparation for tomorrow’s Run Falmouth Half Marathon and Kids Run. Our hope was that the forecast would change and be more favourable to the events planned. However, with worsening conditions, a yellow weather warning for Falmouth and all of Cornwall, forecast heavy snow during the events, existing standing water on the course and sub-zero temperatures, we have decided to cancel Run Falmouth 2018 and the Kids Run.

We must put the safety of our diverse field of runners and our marshals, spectators and all other associated staff and volunteers, first. They are our priority and it is in the interest of ensuring the safety of everyone involved that we have made this very difficult decision.

We do not yet know if we will be able to rearrange another date for the events to take place.

We appreciate how disappointing this news will be and when the Fundraising Team is back in the office on Monday (19th March), they will be in touch with all runners.

Thank you in advance to all involved in understanding this very difficult decision we have had to make.

Oliver Hoare, Head of Fundraising, Cornwall Hospice Care, 17th March 2018.

Registration for the Kids Run is now closed. If you would still like to sign up you can do so on the morning of the event at the Falmouth Hotel.

Why support Cornwall Hospice Care?

Every year it costs over £5 million to provide the specialist care we offer to our in and out patients. Only 20% of this is funded through a contribution from Cornwall’s NHS Commissioners, in simple terms, the NHS contribution pays for 71 days of care each year. In a calendar year that’s only enough to get us to the 12th March. We rely on the generosity of people like you in Cornwall who leave us legacies, support fundraising events, play our lottery and visit our 32 shops.

£56 could pay for three hours of unrivalled specialist care from one of our nurses, helping patients who are terminally ill.

£37 could pay for one Lymphoedema appointment to ease swelling and symptoms for someone with cancer.

£23 could pay for an hour with our bereavement counsellor, supporting families  through the loss of a loved one.
