Adrian's story

Adrian joined the Cornwall Hospice Care team in 2015

  1. What were you doing before you became a volunteer?

Director for research at the economic and social research council.

  1. What inspired you to become a volunteer?

I moved to Cornwall and was looking for a volunteering opportunity to give something back to this wonderful county.

One of my college friends was cared for at a hospice before he died and said how well he was treated.

  1. What do you get out of being a volunteer?

Being a small part of a great team that regularly work miracles in bringing back, though sadly not to cure, those with life limiting conditions to some quality of life in the precious time they have left.

The opportunity to be involved in something really special and appreciated – a timely cup of tea, a wedding, an anniversary, a birthday, even a football match.

Our role is a small one but I think we volunteer to make a difference.
