This is a fantastic opportunity within Cornwall Hospice Care for a finance professional to join us in a key role. We are a leading Cornish charity providing special care for adults who are living with life limiting illness. The care is provided at our two hospices – Mount Edgcumbe and St Julia’s Hospices.

The Head of Finance will prepare management and financial accounting reports and statements ensuring accurate, up to date record keeping and sound financial systems and controls are in place, making improvements where necessary. The role holder will have line management responsibility for the Finance team and the Legacy Officer, with whom you will oversee the legacy receipts and processes.

In addition the remit of the role will cover auditing, variance investigation, maintaining the fixed assets register and preparing the finance risk register, forecasting and in depth financial analysis. Your work will assist other departments in their work and will contribute to the overall success of the charity.

We are looking for a qualified accountant, or equivalent, with experience of preparing statutory accounts in accordance with FRS 102 and developing management accounting and reporting systems. Ideally you will have worked in the charity sector, or at a minimum you will have an understanding of the financial rules and regulations applicable to charities. Your working knowledge must cover Microsoft Excel, Sage Line 50 and/ or Sage 200, VAT, Corporation Tax and PAYE.

To succeed in this role it is imperative that you are an excellent communicator in both written and verbal forms. You will be comfortable and adept at communicating detailed financial information, sometimes to non-financial recipients, in a concise way, effectively resolving queries that may arise. You will need to have an eye for detail and expert time management skills that ensure you deliver on strict deadlines.
