Don’t let your guard down! A briefing from our Executive Team on Friday 18th June 2021

We’re sorry to have to send out this message but with Covid-19 cases rising quickly in Cornwall the threat of this virus is once again very close.  There are reports of restaurants and pubs closing and young people in particular, are bearing the brunt of this latest surge. Our message is simple – don’t let your guard down. It might have seemed like we were beating Covid-19, but the Delta variant is amongst us and spreading.

We need to remain alert, especially when we’re with our children and grandchildren or around young people. We know that’s hard when you want to hug someone or enjoy a meal together, but we also have to look after each other whether it’s our family, our friends or our work colleagues.

First and foremost, remember HANDS. FACE. SPACE. FRESH AIR.  All these actions will help protect you and those around you from the rising cases right here in Cornwall.

If you’re near and around children and young adults, refrain from hugging them, wear your face mask and keep your distance. They’ll probably be as aware as you of the increasing number of cases and will understand.

TEST! We can’t emphasis this enough right now. Please test twice a week no matter where in our charity, you work or volunteer.

If you don’t have symptoms, you can get free regular Rapid Lateral Flow tests to check for COVID-19. *If you do have symptoms of COVID-19, you need a different test called a PCR test. Get a PCR test if you have symptoms of COVID-19 on GOV.UK

You can order the rapid tests online Order rapid lateral flow home test kits on GOV.UK  and you can also collect up to 2 packs of 7 rapid tests from your local pharmacy or test site.

For staff at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice there are boxes of tests in Gina’s office and at St Julia’s Hospice the tests are in Lou Ranford’s office where you also need to sign them out.  At Daniel’s Lane the rapid tests are available from Ian Lippiatt in the fundraising office and will need to be signed for when collected.

Please note: if you’re one of the people required to do a weekly PCR test, please keep hold of the spare barcode just in case the test doesn’t register. You can then call 119 for your result.

Get vaccinated! Ensure those around you get this message too, especially younger family and friends who’re now eligible. They can find out more on the government website here – Who can get the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine – NHS (www.nhs.uk)

There’s a real concern in Cornwall about the soaring number of cases and we want to protect you and your loved ones and our front-line workers who’re caring for very sick and vulnerable people. So please don’t let your guard down this weekend and in the coming weeks and let’s fight back against this dreadful pandemic.

Thank you for your continued support, it really makes a difference as we continue to provide our service and fight back from Covid-19.

Best wishes and have a good weekend,

Paul, Gina and Graham
