An update for clinical staff / clinical volunteers from Gina Starnes on Thursday 22nd July 2021

I appreciate that the ‘pingdemic’ and this extraordinarily hot weather are taking their toll at our hospices. Thank you for your resilience. I know you like me, must be wondering what the world might throw at us next. I’m hoping the following guidance will help.

If you wear PPE as part of your role, please switch off the NHS Covid-19 App when at work.

If you’re pinged outside of your shift, please call your Line Manager as soon as possible to discuss the way forward.

If you’ve been in close contact with someone who has Covid-19 NHS Test and Trace will contact you to discuss and identify any further contacts.

There’s hope on the horizon: From 16th August those staff who are double vaccinated won’t have to self-isolate if they are in close contact with someone who tests positive for Covid-19.

In this extreme weather, please also remember to keep hydrated, taking regular breaks to have a drink.

It’s really important to look after yourself when temperatures are as high as they are. There are no prizes for struggling on and we all understand how tough hot weather can be on us.

Thank you again for your commitment and hard work in these trying times. I’m aware of the extra strain the current situation brings and I appreciate your support to keep the units open.
