The dawning of 2020 is a very special moment for our charity as we mark 40 years of providing hospice care in Cornwall. We’ll be spending the next 12 months celebrating all that has been achieved, where we are now and our plans for the future. We invite you to join us on the journey.
This is our New Year message from our Chief Executive Paul Brinsley;
The first hospice to be built in Cornwall was Mount Edgcumbe in St Austell that was formally opened to patients on the 6th of October 1980. It means that in 2020 we will be celebrating 40 years of care provided free of charge to terminally ill people across the County and the Isles of Scilly.
We’ve achieved a great deal in that time and now Cornwall Hospice Care supports and operates two hospices; Mount Edgcumbe and St Julia’s in Hayle. We also provide community services, Lymphoedema Clinics, a 24 hour advice line for healthcare professionals and palliative care support in the County’s acute hospital.
All this we have achieved thanks to you. Without your continuing support we couldn’t provide our 20 hospice beds together with the medical, nursing and therapy staff we need or the 24/7 care we offer. In 2020 please join us and celebrate our achievements together over the years; come along to one of the many fundraising events we’ll be hosting through the year or why not hold one of your own, we can offer you lots of help.
We can all be very proud of the work of our charity, continuing the legacy of our pioneering founders who saw the need and fought hard to make sure Cornwall today has the hospice care it deserves.
A happy and peaceful New Year to you all and let’s raise a glass to our 40th anniversary.
