Dedicated fundraisers Bob and Marilyn Bosisto are celebrating the news that they have reached their target of raising £100,000 for Cornish charity Cornwall Hospice Care. The couple who live near St Columb, have collected in the funds through monthly charity auctions that they have been running for the last seven years.
Bob and Marilyn have been involved in auctions for many years, but starting collecting for Cornwall Hospice Care when a close friend died of cancer. In the first year they set themselves a £20,000 target. “It was very hard work”, says Bob, “but we achieved it and we enjoyed ourselves and with the support of many people we then undertook the massive challenge to raise £100,000. Here we are seven years later and I’m proud to say we’ve done it, with a lot of help from friends to whom I say a big thank you.”

The auctions have been held at Penwithick every month and at Indian Queens twice a year and at their last auction they raised more than £4,000. “We’re going to miss all this, but we can relax now we’ve met our target. We’re still going to get involved a bit, but now we’re going to take time for ourselves. We’re about to celebrate our Golden wedding anniversary and Marilyn’s birthday so there’s lots of other things happening now.”
At a small informal presentation of the £100,000 at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice in St Austell, Paul Brinsley Chief Executive of Cornwall Hospice Care, told Bob and Marilyn, “This total is absolutely amazing. Your support of our charity has been wonderful and is very much appreciated by everyone. Our focus is of course the care we provide at our hospices and in the community and you’ve helped us to achieve this.” In reply Bob said, “It’s been a pleasure and we have done what we can. It’s been about having a laugh so you enjoy what you’re doing and we certainly have had a lot of fun alongside the hard work.”
The Bosisto family have strong links to Cornwall Hospice Care where their son has been a valuable member of the retail department and their three daughters have also had roles. But they are also keen supporters of a wider range of charities as Bob explains, “we’ve been doing a sale at the Merrymoor Inn at Mawgan Porth for 25 years now and have raised funds for a number of different charities. We’ve done all this together and it’s very rewarding.”
