This summer Cornish charity Cornwall Hospice Care is delighted to be returning to the stunning Trebah Garden on the Helford River for Reflections. This annual event offers people the chance to come together and remember their loved ones in peaceful outdoor surroundings.

The event, which is supported by WJ Beswetherick and Sons Funeral Directors, is being held on Sunday 25th June. Anyone who would like to take part is invited to write a personal message of remembrance and attach their tag to a Gerbera flower, which is then in turn placed on a wicker raft in the shape of an open lotus flower. With some gentle background music provided by classical guitarist, David Hayes, the raft is gently rowed away.

Clare Bray, Tribute and In Memory Fundraiser for Cornwall Hospice Care says, “This year we have moved our Reflections event from a midweek afternoon to a Sunday, meaning that hopefully more people will be able to personally attach their messages to the raft. It’s a very moving but beautiful afternoon spent on the tranquil beach at the bottom of Trebah Garden. I’m looking forward to seeing as many people there as possible, but if you are unable to make it, please let me know and we can make sure your message is put on the raft.”

Despite the event being organised by Cornwall Hospice Care, anyone is welcome to take part and those being remembered don’t have to have been cared for by the hospices. Clare adds, “As with all of our remembrance events, we would love anyone to join in, but by remembering your loved ones with us you’re also supporting the work of a truly Cornish charity. Your donation will help us to continue caring for patients living with a terminal illness and their families.”

Trebah Garden will be open free of charge to participants from 4pm, the raft will float at approximately 5pm on Sunday 25th June. To find out more, or to write your message please visit or call Clare on 01726 66868 (option 3).

Notes to editors:

The two pictures were taken at last year’s event on the beach at Trebah and show the raft ready to be rowed away.

About Cornwall Hospice Care:

Cornwall Hospice Care is a 24/7 Cornish charity that provides specialist care for people with terminal illnesses. Our nursing teams support patients and their families at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice in St Austell, St Julia’s Hospice in Hayle and in Cornwall’s hospitals, care homes and where necessary, in the community. The charity also runs a 24 hour advice line for other healthcare professionals. It costs over £5 million to provide the specialist care we offer to our in and out patients. Only 20% of this is funded through a contribution from Cornwall’s NHS Commissioners. The other £4million is raised via the support of people in Cornwall who leave us legacies, support fundraising events, play our lottery and visit our 31 shops.
