An open letter from our Head of Retail
Our Head of Retail, Frazer Hopkins has issued this update today – 14th July 2020 – to share with you news on how we’ve been doing and what happens next for our shops, warehouses and van network.
To our generous donors,
We owe you a huge thank you! It’s down to your generosity that we’ve been inundated with donated items to sell in our charity shops. In fact, you’ve been so kind we’re now almost bursting at the seams, almost but not quite so do keep donating!
We labelled June as our donation month and what a month it was. We opened 4 donation centres and sent our vans out to key towns. You did us proud; our vans were often full within a couple of hours and at our donation centres we received almost 50,000 bags and boxes of goods in just 30 days.
All this means we now have a brilliant supply of items in the pipeline ready to go to our charity shops as they start to open across Cornwall. With limited staff, many are still on furlough, we need to prepare a supply system now so that’s why we’re going to stop sending our vans out from this Saturday (18th July). I know this will be disappointing to some of you, but there’s only so much we can do. The good news is that we’re keeping our hugely successful donation centres at Holmbush, Truro, Bodmin and Bude open and ready to accept your kind gifts. Please note we unfortunately can’t receive your donations at our shops as they need to be stored untouched for 72 hours and then sorted in a safe and spacious environment.
Thank you for your understanding in these exceptional times. We’ve had to dramatically change the way we work and with your support we’re starting to revive our business. Working together we’ll be able to raise funds to keep our two precious hospices open as they have been 24/7 throughout this pandemic.
To find out more about our donation stations and which of our shops are now open, please visit our website – www.cornwallhospicecare.co.uk or click on the red buttons on the right.
On behalf of everyone at Cornwall Hospice Care, thank you again, we couldn’t have asked for more from you all.
