What a success for our Summer Raffle
It was a win – win situation when Alison Johnston answered the social media call of local charity Cornwall Hospice Care; “Can you lend a helping hand selling our raffle tickets to your friends, family and colleagues?”
Having friends and family who have experienced hospice care first hand, Alison answered the post to help. She told us; “The care at St Julia’s Hospice in Hayle is exceptional. I was only too pleased to be able to help by selling raffle tickets and knowing it costs £20 to fund a Cornwall Hospice Care Nurse for an hour, it means someone else will be able to receive this wonderful care”.
Alison then happened to sell what’s was the winning ticket to her colleague Camellia Bullingham of St Merryn. Alison went on to say; “After I had the call from Cornwall Hospice Care Lottery saying I’d sold the ticket to Camellia, I phoned Cam and left her a message for her to look out for a call from a St Austell number!”
Sarah Vincent, Lottery Manager said “Camellia was very shocked when I told her she’d won our first prize of £2,000 and when I met up with her she told me; “I thought I’d got a speeding ticket when Alison messaged me, so to hear I’d won £2,000 was very unexpected good news.”
Twenty five year old Camellia is saving for a house but kindly donated £200 of her winnings back and added; “Now that I have got over the shock, big thanks to Cornwall Hospice Care – I’m really grateful to have won and appreciate all the work you do.”
Sarah continued; “Our supporters have been so generous buying and selling our £1 Summer Raffle tickets and together raised an amazing £27,458. This will help us to continue providing the specialist care we offer to terminally ill patients and their families, carers and friends. It makes a real difference and we are very thankful to all our summer raffle supporters.
They are all winners to us; however, 13 lucky people did get to win our prizes. It’s always a highlight to tell someone their generosity has been rewarded with a cash prize win!”
