Until I retired recently I was a GP in Truro for over thirty years, in which time I came to the conclusion that end of life care is the touchstone of a good health care system.  That view was strengthened by the experience of looking after my wife at home when she died from breast cancer.  I joined the Board of Trustees at the beginning of 2016 and was immediately impressed by the expertise on hand and by the commitment to the service.  I hope to make a contribution as part of the clinical services committee and I am particularly interested in the roles of education and training and the opportunities we have to facilitate further improvements in end of life care across the county, so that the outstanding care standards which Cornwall Hospices provide can be brought to many more of those with end of life needs in the community.
