Your invitation to Light Up A Life
I’m Janet Barnie, Ward Clerk at Cornwall Hospice and I’d like to invite you to our annual Light Up A Life service.
Long before I became a member of staff, I was one of the many volunteers who helped bring the idea of Hospice care in Cornwall to life. I could never have imagined this would lead me on a 45 year journey with Cornwall Hospice.
As we approach the end of the year, it’s natural to reflect on the last 12 months: the moments that brought a tear or a smile, moments that mattered.
I have been doing this a lot recently, as Cornwall Hospice celebrated its 45th anniversary. I have reflected on the people I have met, the stories I have been privileged to be a part of, and the role we as charity have played in the lives of people across Cornwall.
It is with all of this in mind that I am inviting you to take part in Light Up A Life this year. Light Up A Life is our much loved act of remembrance, this year, taking place on Sunday the 6th of December at 7pm in Truro Cathedral. This is a chance to come together, to remember those we have loved and continue to love, and to find comfort in the candlelight, the music and the company of others.
As part of the service, the names of our loved ones are displayed on screen and recorded in our beautiful Books of Remembrance. These books will then continue to be on display at Truro Cathedral, St Julia’s and Mount Edgcumbe Hospices, and here on our website.
With your dedication you will be invited to make a donation. Every penny gifted allows us to continue our mission to make everyday matter for those in our care.
I very much hope that you can join us, in person or online, so that we can share this time of reflection that means so much to us as we approach the upcoming festive season.

Make Your Light Up A Life Dedication every year
Did you know you can set your Light Up A Life dedications as an annual recurring gift? Knowing we will receive this annual gift will help give us the confidence to plan for the future. If you wish to make your donation annually, please click the annual donation button below.
Dedications made after the 30th November will not be included in the service.
By making a donation you are helping to make every moment matter for patients and their families at our St Julia’s and Mount Edgcumbe Hospices.
Watch the 2025 Light Up A Life livestream
We know that not everyone can or is able to join our Light Up A Life service in person, you are able to watch a livestream of the whole service and see all the names of those being remembered via the Cornwall Hospice YouTube channel.
Just click the play button in the centre of the image below from 7pm on Sunday 7th December to join with us.
If you’re not able to watch live, a recording of the service will be available to watch after the service has finished and into the new year.

How can I make my Light Up A Life dedications?
You can complete your dedications securely online using the buttons above.
If you have any problems, please do call our Fundraising Office on 01726 66868 option 3 and the team will be happy to help.
Is there a deadline for getting my dedication to you?
Yes there is. If you’d like your dedications to be included in the service, we need to have received your dedication by 5pm on Monday 30th November.
Where and when can I see the Books of Remembrance?
Our Books of Remembrance will be on display for the Light Up A Life service at Truro Cathedral on Sunday 6th December.
Books of Remembrance can also be viewed at both Mount Edgcumbe Hospice, St Austell and St Julia’s Hospice, Hayle following the service and will remain available until the end of January.
We also have an online copy of the Books of Remembrance which can be viewed here on this webpage when available.
Do I need to attend the service in person?
There is no obligation to attend the service at Truro Cathedral in person, although if you are able to attend we hope that the service provides you with some peace and comfort as you remember your loved ones.
If you prefer, each year we are fortunate to be able to livestream the service from the Cathedral thanks to their team and equipment. This livestream can be viewed from 7pm on the evening of the service on this webpage and is recorded so can be watched back at a time convenient to you.
